Phase 2: Corrective Care

Teaming Up for Optimal Health

Most chiropractors regard the elimination of symptoms as the easiest part of a patient's care. If a chiropractor reduces the patient's pain and stops there, the chances of the condition recurring are much greater. In order to prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue receiving care even though your symptoms may be decreasing or are gone altogether.

We at Fay West Chiropractic like to say that once you are feeling better, this is when we can finally START to get you better.  Getting patients out of pain is just the beginning.  True correction of the underlying causes of the pain and symptoms can only be accomplished by performing rehabilitation.

Dr. Homonai has over 300 hours of post-graduate training in rehabilitative techniques and strategies.  He is the only doctor in the Fay-West area to have additional certification from the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board, the organization that trains doctors to become specialists in rehabilitation.

During this corrective / restorative phase of your care, you will not have to receive adjustments as often as you did during the first, symptom-relief phase of care and, depending on your particular circumstances, you may be able to begin doing certain exercises and stretches at home to help accelerate your healing.  The doctor at Fay West Chiropractic realizes that every patient's case is different - especially when it comes to rehabilitation.  Exercises that might be great for one person could be harmful to another person.  This is why it is important to seek care from a rehabilitation expert who can customize a rehabilitation plan based upon your own muscle weaknesses or imbalances.  Too frequently we see patients come to our office because another doctor gave them improper stretches and exercises to perform or the patients were given good exercises but were shown how to perform the exercises improperly because the doctor simply didn't know the correct technique.

Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not yet fully healed. Depending on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it, this phase of your care may last anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.
